After the success of last winter’s inaugural Readers’ Choice Sign Contest, we decided to introduce the concept for our Vehicle Graphics competition. And, once again, you’ve spoken: the first Vehicle Graphics Contest Readers’ Choice Awards received 1,585 total votes for its 11 candidates. The contest judges selected the nominees for the Readers’ Choice field.

Xtreme Grafx (Albany, OR) claimed the Reader’s Choice top prize by earning 27.6% of the vote for its wrap – completed for a Citrus Heights, CA Dutch Bros. coffee shop – in what was a hotly contested race. The project finished as an honorable mention in the traditional judging, which further emphasizes the subjective nature of a wrap’s appeal. Finishing in second place by capturing 22% of the tallies was Wicked Wraps’ shop-truck wrap, which won the Signshop Graphics category. Great Big Signs and Full Print Solutions’ collaboration on the What’s Da Scoop? ice-cream truck, which won Unique Vehicles, was the favorite among 16.6% of survey respondents, good for third place.

Readers’ Choice contest finalists:
Xtreme Grafx – Dutch Brothers Coffee (1st Place)
Wicked Wraps – Green Shop SUV (2nd Place)
• Great Big Signs – What’s Da Scoop? (3rd Place)
Arizona Color – The Flyer Guys
Wrap This! – Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce
SignFarm – You Can’t Lie to Me
Gatorwraps – Chrome McLaren
All About Signs – Bassaholics Boat – Shark Nose Art
Slusher Signs – Mad Manz Boat
Signfarm – Crab Cab Food Truck
Auto Trim Design – Tie Dye Bike Wrap

A number of respondents made comments about their favorites, and about the competition in general. Here are a few examples:
• “The wrap [by Signfarm of Nokesville, VA] for ‘You Can’t Lie To Me’ truly looks like it’s really crunched up and has chains on it. Just like a lie. Good job.”
• “All are excellent; however, the message from the Crab Cab is loud and clear. I don’t have to search for what it is they do or what they want me to do (Buy from them!). Nice idea.”
• “[Media1’s] wrap just plain conveys the message, ‘Fun at Fort Myers Beach!’. Looks like a nice quality wrap also, difficult vehicle to perfect all curvatures and seams. Very nice work.”
• “The green Wicked Wraps truck seems to keep up to the theme the best.”
• “The Airstream was cute; Crab Cab missed the alignment on the back door of the checks, too much reuse of the old Aurora graphics on a couple of the designs, the [3-D ice cream] scoop was cool for the cones; the wrap left something to be desired.”
• “Loved the ice cream truck! The others are nice, but I had to stop and really look at who the company was. There is no mistaking an enormous melting cone on top of a truck. Here comes the ice cream man! Buy a cone or get outta my way!”
• “All of the vehicle graphics are well designed and executed, but I find many of them to be visually overwhelming and cluttered. Gatorwraps [McLaren dealership wrap] is attention-grabbing, pleasing in colors and arrangement, and not at all cluttered.”
