Digital Printing

The Kings Rise

Ferrari Color, which has locations in Salt Lake City, Sacramento and San Francisco, has provided large-format digital-imaging solutions to national clients for more than 30 years. The graphics provider helped inaugurate the Sacramento Kings’ 2010-11 season with this 175 x 65-ft. wrap. A Durst Rho 160R UV printer applied 3M CMYK UV ink to Clear Focus SuperVue Exterior Mount perforated film. The larger, 2mm holes in the film, which is half perforated, don’t obstruct the office dwellers’ views (and some say they welcome the additional shading). A Zund 3XL-3000 flatbed cutter cut the panels, using iCut software. The film was left unlaminated. Total print time consumed roughly 32 hours, at the highest resolution.

A window-washing crew familiar with the building completed the installation. Working from a scaffolding stage hung from the top of the building, they installed three to four columns per drop, when each side of the building was shaded to avoid the extreme heat and reflection from the glass.
