Grant Freking Signs of the Times July 2017 Issue

For the fifth time, Roland DGA is sponsoring the annual gathering of the global Fab Lab society. FAB13 is set for July 31 through Aug. 6 in Santiago, Chile. The event includes presentations by thought leaders, hands-on workshops and demonstrations of digital fabrication, followed by a two-day “Fab Festival” open to the public.

A Fab Lab is an unrestricted workshop offering digital fabrication as well as analog tools with the time to make “almost anything.” At present, there are over 450 Fab Labs in 55 countries under the concepts “MAKE”, “LEARN” and “SHARE”, supporting personal fabrication, which leads to individuals gaining the ability to design and produce their own products.
