Tucked away in a corner space of Herman Miller (Holland, MI), the multinational provider of office furniture, furniture systems and furniture management services, three women sit at a digital island unto themselves. A tall, thin, pixie-haired woman sits at a digital workstation that serves as a movable easel, enabling the user to stand or even sit on the floor. She clicks on the images she has just downloaded images captured by her digital camera. Another woman dashes across the room to the table behind them, clutching a piece of silk she had previously printed on an Encad NovaJet PRO 600 and fans it out on the wall to look at it. "Oh, I just crashed," moans a seemingly calm woman sitting in the corner. She shrugs. After all, she has her dual 300 MHz processor, so her 100 MB file is saved.

This is hardly a scene from a normal print-making studio, but these three women aren’t known for their conventional approach to their craft. Working collectively as Digital Atelier
