GE announces it will observe Lighting Appreciation Day, Thursday, October 21, the anniversary of GE founder Thomas Alva Edison’s successful test of the first, practical, commercial lightbulb. In tribute to this day, GE will announce a significant LED-technology breakthrough at a "Lighting Redefined Symposium" at GE’s research labs in upstate New York on Thursday.
To commemorate the day, the company is encouraging people worldwide to tweet thoughts on what lighting has meant to them and what it might look like in the future. They are also encouraged to tweet pictures or videos featuring:
• A favorite lamp, light fixture or holiday lighting display
• Your city’s night skyline
• Your children studying at night
• Hospitals or manufacturing plants operating at night
• Display or museum lighting on a favorite painting, portrait or artifact.
