Fargo Signarama Helps NDSU Gear Up for Football Season

Wall graphic celebrates program’s championship run

Those of you know me know that I love college football. As we sit less than a week away from the first major-college games, I’m practically salivating at the thought of autumn Saturdays filled with gridiron action.

Todd Fry, the owner of Signarama’s Fargo, ND franchise selected the perfect time to stoke football fanaticism – a photo of signage for the North Dakota St. Univ. (NDSU) football facility, Gate City Bank Field at the FargoDome, where the Bison take the field before capacity crowds of approximately 20,000. At the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level – formerly known as Division I-AA, a step below the big-time programs – NDSU is the embodiment of excellence. The team has won four consecutive FCS national championships, and beaten several top-level programs along the way.
To celebrate the Bison’s championship string, the school hired Fry’s shop to install graphics on a wall inside the FargoDome’s football offices. Initially, the shop used a thin material for the wall wrap, but he said it highlighted the wall’s surface imperfections. Instead, the Signarama opted for General Formulations’ WallMark, a heftier film. Fry’s team helped prep the graphics for production – who wouldn’t get a charge from creating a tribute to champions? – using Adobe Illustrator® and SA Intl. FlexiSign® software. Fry’s shop printed the graphics with its Roland VersaExpress RF-640 printer/cutter with Eco-Sol Max 2 inks. To create the two-layered Bison logo, the shop cut ½ and 1/8-in.-thick PVC on a MultiCam CNC router.
Bison fans will have to wait until NDSU’s home opener against Weber St. on September 12 – though the Bison will enjoy the national spotlight on August 29 when they take on the Univ. of Montana in Missoula in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN – to see this year’s squad play before the home crowd, but the coaching staff will receive constant reminders of fans’ expectations.
