Dump at the Pump

Floating billboards warn against waterway pollution

Published

on

"Dump at the Pump" is a new ad campaign sponsored by California’s Department of Boating and Waterways (Los Angeles). The agency is placing floating billboards along the Southern coast of California to discourage boaters from dumping sewage. The ads target recreational boaters who are expected be out in large numbers during Labor Day weekend.

The California boating and waterways agency hopes the ads will encourage boaters to pump out holding tanks at shoreside pumpout stations, rather than dumping sewage into waterways.

The 24 x 14-ft., inflatable billboards will be slowly pulled by small boats. The project was put together by bbi Display Systems (Malibu, CA), an outdoor advertising company.
