Daktronics Inc. (Brookings, SD), in conjunction with the University of Texas athletic department, has added a unique, LED marquee that helps promote Texas athletic events and other happenings at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. The two-sided display debuted in April 2010.
The LED marquee, adjacent to Interstate 35 at the center, home to the University of Texas men’s and women’s basketball programs, measures approximately 23 x 24 ft. With ultra-wide viewing angles and excellent contrast, the marquee will keep students, athletes and University of Texas supporters informed of upcoming events and on-campus activities.
The display utilizes the full-color display technology, with lines of LED pixels on 15mm spacing. Features of the new technology include improved resolution and contrast, module and cabinet designs that are more resistant to weather, and an advanced ventilation system that increases the life of the display electronics. Operated with Daktronics proven digital display control system, content can be changed frequently, providing the University and its corporate partners more flexibility to reach the thousands that drive by each day with timely and relevant messages.
The display’s content is managed by Daktronics Visiconn® software. The control system allows users to run their displays from any Internet-ready computer. With the ability to integrate multiple display technologies (LED, LCD and others), the Visiconn® control system offers the capability to quickly create and display messages and graphics on the LED displays, allowing advertisers to better target their content to the audience at a particular location or certain time of day.
Daktronics previously provided an integrated scoring and video system inside the center, with fans being entertained and informed during basketball games by digital LED centerhung and ribbon displays. The University of Texas also has Daktronics video and scoring technology at their football, aquatics, baseball, tennis, and track-and-field venues.
