Colossal Media Settles NYC Lawsuit, Pays $225,000 Fine

Colossal Media (Brooklyn, NY) settled with New York City officials by agreeing to pay a $225,000 fine to settle a lawsuit that resulted from its installing an out-of-home wall graphics without a permit at a 12-story building at 598 Broadway in the city’s SoHo District. The city’s suit was filed on behalf of its Landmarks Preservation Commission. According to a May 8 New York Times report, Robert B. Tierney, the commission chairman, Colossal Media installed more than 20 signs on the building’s wall over a seven-year period without ever having applied for permits.

The building’s owners, Zvi and Nat Mosery, said sign restrictions restrict landlord’s income, and compels them to raise rents.

The article also stated that Colossal Media officials have agreed to file applications for four other noncompliant wall graphics on landmark properties on Broome, Canal and Grand streets.
