Mackey’s Hot Rods Inc./Sailor Jerry’s Spiced Rum

Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins became famous for the tattoos he applied to the arms of countless US Navy sailors and civilians in his Honolulu parlor. Mackey’s Hot Rods custom-built this 1962 Impala for Sailor Jerry’s Spiced Rum, a libation offered by William Grant & Sons, a Scottish distiller. Dmytrow said, “Every inch of the vehicle was measured prior to our creation of a wrap-design mock-up. Because of the meticulous pinstripes and details, we had to develop our own design template.”
After perfecting the Adobe Photoshop design during a painstaking, 40-hour process, Surf City Graphics generated the wrap with Avery Dennison Graphic Solutions’ Supreme SW900 wrap film on the shop’s Roland DGA SolJet Pro II SC-540 printer. The exotic wrap’s nautical iconography will endure thanks to the application of Avery’s MPI 1105 EZ Apply RS cast that’s coated with DOL 6040 sparkle-finish over-laminate, which was applied on a Seal Pro laminator. They used Geek Wraps felt and 3M PA-1 Gold nylon squeegees to complete the installation.

Azpro decked out this 1954 Dodge pickup as a promotional piece for a shop open house. Castro developed the design using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and the shop produced the graphics on an HP 3000 latex-ink printer with 3M Controltac IJ180-10C air-release media. Bustos navigated the vintage truck’s numerous contours and complex lines – and aged paint – to install a memorable graphic. To protect the deep-brown timber and blue sky, azpro applied 3M Scotchcal 8518 glossy topcoat on a Seal 62 Pro laminator.

Absolute Perfection received a brand-new 2016 MINI Cooper Clubman to wrap for this photography studio, and it delivered a distinctive “rolling billboard” sure to attract clients. The design features a lens-flare pattern with the client’s brand color projecting from the camera’s outer lens. Fong noted that the Clubman’s curvatures present challenges, but the results attest to the installers’ success. The shop produced the wrap on an HP 360 latex-ink printer with 3M Controltac air-release media, which is protected with 3M Scotchcal 8518 applied with a Seal 54 laminator.
