Arena Ciudad de México Chooses Daktronics for Integrated Super System

Daktronics Inc. (Brookings, SD) will provide an integrated an LED super system, including video, scoring and advertising displays, for Arena Ciudad de México, in the northern section of México City. The arena is scheduled to open in the fall of 2011 with installation of the multi-million dollar Daktronics system beginning in the spring of 2011.
Daktronics will also supply a 93 ft. 6 in. x 686-ft.display that wraps the building façade, two ribbon displays that circle the inside of the arena and a superlarge, centerhung display.
The huge, exterior display will utilize PXS-125 ProPixel® LED stick elements, which will be mounted on the building exterior above an open-air concourse area. The centerhung configuration, which will include 12 LED video displays, will measure approximately 46 x 78 ft. and weigh approximately 150,000 lbs. The two largest displays will have 10mm pixel spacing and measure approximately 36 ft. 6 in. x 65 ft. 6 in. The two square displays on the ends of the rectangular centerhung display and eight additional displays, two each on the top and bottom of each side of the structure, will show live video, graphics, custom animation, full-color graphics and logos, sports statistics, timing and results information.
The main centerhung display will be raised and lowered using a permanently installed custom designed Vortek® hoist system from Daktronics. This system will be used to support the display at varying elevations depending on the venue’s needs.
Complementing he primary centerhung scoreboard, two LED ribbonboards mounted on the interior fascia of the seating decks. The largest will measure more than 1,184 ft. long, and the second will extend more than 594 ft.
Daktronics partnered with Mexico-based Publitronics to provide a turnkey solution for Arena Ciudad de México.
Arena Ciudad de México will host concerts, sporting events and other entertainment events. The property will include 124 luxury suites on three levels, private access and heliports, and 5,000 parking spaces.
