THE EVER-EXPANDING applications of large-format print could perhaps be described as a “world of pure imagination.” Ontario, Canada-based print business Global Printing Enterprises (GPE) recently opened shoppers’ eyes to the possibilities of print with an immersive display promoting the new Hollywood prequel film “Wonka,” starring Timothée Chalamet as the famous Willy Wonka.

To hype up the beloved fictional chocolatier’s origin story, Warner Bros. promoted the film with activations around the world, including Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto, Canada. Reignite Marketing, Warner Bros. Canada, and Oxford Properties called upon GPE, a longtime print partner, to print and install a special experience for fans to enjoy: “Wonka’s Sweet Escape,” offering visitors the chance to explore Wonka’s candy shop and enjoy a series of photo ops complete with wall murals, displays, backdrops, and floor graphics.

The project required graphics that stood out and captured both the attention and imagination of visitors, while also adhering to strict indoor-air quality, anti-slip certification, and fire compliance standards. GPE used the shop’s HP Latex 3100 to output graphics on Drytac Polar Grip Air vinyl, Drytac Polar Premium Air film, Drytac ReTac Smooth 150 polymeric PVC film, and Drytac FloorTac PVC film paired with Drytac Interlam Pro Emerytex film.

Collaborating with fabricators dpfx.to (instagram.com/dpfx.to) and Drawbox Design & Fabrication (drawbox.ca), the mind-boggling activation featured a 32 x 70-foot carpet floor graphic, “cobblestone” path adorned with a 35-foot-tall cherry blossom tree, oversized mushrooms, flowers, lollipop displays, colossal Wonka chocolate bar, and large-scale graphics featuring characters from the film.
