Whole Foods / ATX interactive sign

When Whole Foods Market asked Ion Art to craft an interactive monument, the goal was to create a landmark for the city of Austin, not specifically to promote the Whole Foods brand. Ion Art had to make sure this piece was structurally sound, because the public would soon be encouraged to climb onto it and snap photos. Ion Art used Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Rhino 5 and EnRoute software, 3/4-in. steel letter faces, aluminum slats, a MIG welder and Matthews paint for the construction. The sign did, in fact, become a new landmark; Yelp recommended it as a “place to see” in Austin just two days after installation.
